BEST Corp. has many success stories. One example is Constantina Cruz: Constantina Cruz is originally from Cape Verde. She started working as a housekeeper at the Omni Parker House in 1999. She took a Banquet Server course and immediately began working as an on-call banquet server in addition to her regular full time job. As an on-call server she worked close to an extra 20 hours a month. As a result she was able to quit a second job she held that required working an additional 20 hours of work a week. In April, 2006, Constantina was promoted to room service server. In October of 2007 she was promoted to full time banquet server. She says, "The hotel’s education program has given me a tremendous amount of strength and a determination to go for it. I’m no longer afraid or hesitant to take another job. The class has given me the confidence that I can do anything I want to do. Especially when it comes to food and beverage. I have no doubt that whatever they put in front of me I can get it done and get it done right."
Mercelene Juste
Mercelene Juste began taking classes at the Hotel Training Center in 2008. She has made significant progress in her English classes and has taken advantage of the volunteer tutors and the computer classes as well. Mercelene started working as a room attendant at the Fairmont Copley in 2005. Now she is working as a barback. This is what Jennifer Parent, of the Human Resources Staff at Fairmont Copley had to say about Mercelene: “Mercelene won Employee of the Year. The reason she won was her smile. Anyone who walked through stewarding was lucky to see her smile. She is always very helpful and willing to do whatever needs to be done. She’s very gracious. Her attitude is contagious.
